Thrown on the potter's wheel, this vase was specifically designed for Ikebana flower arrangement with its circular 4.5 inch opening which easily accommodates frogs. Three hand- built feet give the piece lift and a sturdy foundation. A porcelain slip was added for texture and color variation before the piece was sprayed with a blue glaze. The interior is also glazed with a Caribbean blue color.
Soda Firing is a method of firing where a soda solution is sprayed into the kiln, creating a glaze that deposits on the clay pieces. The unique surface and coloring of soda fired pottery is achieved through a combination of choice of clay bodies, slips, glazes, and the atmospheric conditions in the kiln during the firing process.

I make functional pottery with the aim of bringing beauty and pleasure into a person’s daily life. My pottery usually starts on the wheel and is further embellished by hand. My objective is to have every piece I make reflect my aesthetic and the unpredictable nature of the soda firing process. My goal is to create work that honors and continues the long tradition of handmade pottery.
