The penannular brooch is a utilitarian fastener from the Iron Age. Worn by men and women alike, they had a wide range of uses, from holding a dress together to securing a cloak. An indispensable “safety pin” for re-enactors, modern users find them useful as well, being perfect shawl and scarf pins. it can also be used with silk scarves woven through it like a buckle.
