IT'S THE LITTLE THINGS.
A young woman in the Lehman Collection at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York views Georges Seurat's 1881-82 painting The Mower (top) and 1884 Study of A Sunday on La Grande Jatte (bottom). The Grande Jatte study was one of about fifty oil sketches and drawings made as preparatory studies for Seurat's monumental French masterpiece, A Sunday on La Grande Jatte. The scene depicts Parisians at leisure on an island in the Seine.
