My work is like retrospective documents - each piece being one fragment of a much larger story. The pieces each begin as a detailed sketch followed by a dedicated process to determine colour placement. Once determined, there is little, if any, further intuitive work to my process. My work is very graphic and celebrates structure, order and a dedication to the very minute details of life. I aim to make work that evokes a sense of calm, stability and peace of mind for the viewer. It’s the purposeful stillness of the work that I believe offers meditative moments to those who engage with it.
My aim is to create pieces that evoke a sense of calm, balance, peace, and order. Standing before them, and taking the time to engage with the work, I hope becomes as meditative of an experience for the viewer as it is for me when creating the work. Providing brief moments of escape and reflection for those who slow down long enough to allow for the experience. If I'm able to provide you with a readily available focal point, one that you can turn towards when needing to rebalance yourself, I would consider the piece to be successful.
