Recently, I started working on a series of wood panels for the first time in many years. Always a “layers” girl, I’ve been drawn to the textures I can create and the resilience of the material. Carving into it, sanding layers away to reveal what lies beneath, even the smell of the raw wood has pulled me in. It’s been revealing to me that frankly, it can take more of a beating than the canvas or the papers I’m used to working with. That I can throw whatever I have at it, and it will endure. It can hold all the duality that I need to process. Both rough and smooth. Faded and fresh. Tender and bold. The hidden and the obvious. The raw and the refined. Reactive and reflective. The bitter and the sweet of life, all at once.
12" x 12", acrylic and mixed media on wood panel. Comes in a white wooden floating frame.
