About the artwork:
This painting is about the interplay of colors that almost seems surreal. Sun was setting above the lake giving everything a warm glow. Rock were pink and orange, but the water was still very cool and all that created a beautiful interaction of warm and cool colors. This scene vibrates with color.
Composition is an important element here as well. Nadia chose a vertical format to highlight the nature of those huge flat rocks. Lines lead your eye into the distance to the more serene area of the painting - a place to rest.
Brushwork on the foreground delights the eyes and gives an idea of texture of the rocks.
This incredible stone beach is Nadia's favorite place on Lake Ontario. Huge flat rocks form the beach floor and go deep into the water. Their textures, lines, colors are captivating. She painted there many times.

Nadia Gurkova
I started seriously perusing my artistic journey in 2014. I have attended several art schools and many workshops. My work has been exhibited in solo as well as esteemed juried shows in Toronto. In 2020 I have achieved the status of an elected member in the two of the most esteemed art associations in Canada – Ontario Society of Artists and Colour and Form Society. My work has been awarded “Juror’s Choice award” in the Annual Open Juried Exhibition of the latter (2020).
Today I continue to exhibit in Canada, participate in various art project in my local community, teach workshops, show my art on international online platforms. My most favorite creative practice includes painting from life in my studio and “en plein air” (outdoors). My work is in private collections in Canada, US, UK, Russia, Germany, Cyprus and Malta.
