Thank you for your interest in supporting the Legion of Super Fans. Volunteers are essential to our mission, and we appreciate the time and talents you share. To ensure clarity, please review the following policies:
1. Volunteer Status
All individuals who participate in the Legion of Super Fans activities do so as volunteers.
Volunteers are not employees of the Legion of Super Fans.
No wages, salaries, or other financial compensation will be provided for volunteer service.
2. Appreciation Items
From time to time, the Legion of Super Fans may provide small tokens of appreciation (such as t-shirts, meals, admission badges, or similar items).
These are gestures of thanks and are not considered payment, wages, or taxable compensation.
3. No Expectation of Compensation
By volunteering with the Legion of Super Fans you acknowledge that your service is provided freely and without expectation of compensation.
Accepting a volunteer role does not create an employment relationship.
4. Compliance with Law
Our policies are consistent with U.S. Department of Labor guidance, which states that volunteers who serve nonprofit charitable organizations without expectation of pay are not employees (29 U.S.C. § 203(e)(4)(A)).
The IRS also recognizes that volunteers may receive nominal, non-cash benefits without it being considered taxable wages or creating an employment relationship.
5. Volunteer Conduct
Volunteers are expected to act respectfully toward staff, fellow volunteers, and community members.
Volunteers may be asked to step down if behavior is inconsistent with the values or mission of the Legion of Super Fans.
We are grateful for your willingness to serve and support our work. Your time, energy, and goodwill are what make our mission possible.
