About this event
The "old fair" name of The Northern Neck Agricultural Fair is long gone, but it is remembered as a special place in the hearts and memories of many that attended. In 1957 it was listed as "The Biggest Little Fair in the South". Program events such as harness racing, dairy cattle judging, beef cattle demonstration, swine judging, tractor driving contest and the "Miss Northern Neck Fair" beauty contest kept everyone entertained. The fair started on Monday and ran through Saturday. General admission for adults was 60 cents and children under 12 years was 30 cents. Midway rides and big shows were provided by George Clyde Smith Shows. Kids still marvel at the rides, although the rides have evolved over time. They still get excited when they win a prize at a game of skill or in a contest with their prize animal. Exhibitors are still proud of their baked goods or canned items. Politicians still make sure that they attend to press the flesh and shake hands of many they would court for a vote. Exhibitors and food vendors still display their goods. Bands play music on the stage, bingo games offer challenges of skill and luck. Smells of funnel cakes, kettle corn, hamburgers and BBQ, fish sandwiches and of course ice cream fill the air with pleasant aromas. It is the history of the "old fair" and memories of days gone past that revive us today. Our fair spirit is still alive and kickin' and we want you to be a part of it. So come on out and join us at the "Richmond County Fair". 2025 marks the 37th year of the Richmond County Fair, with lots of fun and good times to be had! Long range plans for the Richmond County Fair will focus on exterior repairs to the big barn and continuing capital improvements to Memorial Hall. In addition, the Fair is committed to increasing our support of the local 4-H Program by making improvements to our Livestock Pavilion Show Ring.
