General Rules
Teams should adhere to the contest rules published on our website.
As noted on the entry form, each team should provide a minimum 200 wings for each category they are competing in. The entry fees paid by each public tasters fund all the prizes for the contest and the minimum limit on meats ensures a good number of public tasters get to sample from a majority of the teams.
Serving Food and Food Safety
Teams should bring everything needed to serve food and keep a clean serving area..
All food must be cooked off site. Only sterno is allowed in tents for flames. Teams should be serving food from a traditional food service buffet pan with sterno setup, like this : https://www.walmart.com/ip/Sterno-70182-Full-Size-Buffet-Kit/46652302
Teams must follow Georgia Department of Public Health food safety regulations, including keeping all foods at least 140ºF or higher, if held hot, and at least 45ºF or less, if held cold and wearing gloves whenever handling food. We will be checking to make sure teams are meeting these standards before public tasting begins.
Judges
Beginning at 11:45 AM teams will be asked for their entries to the judges. Judges will judge one team at a time. Our volunteers will carry the entries from each team’s tent to the judges tent.
Teams will be informed of the order of judging upon arrival at 11:00.
Teams will be given one container for each category they are competing in. A minimum of four wings should be put in the container.
Judges will provide scores for taste (including flavor and texture) and appearance of each dish. The taste score will be 75% of each team’s final score, and the appearance score will be 25% of the final score. Appearance is combination of how the meat looks and how it is plated.
Teams may garnish or accompany their judged entries however they see fit. The only requirement is the entries contain chicken wings. Teams are welcome to serve only wings in their container with no garnish. Judges will judge the appearance of the wing itself... is it too dry? too sauced? etc.
People’s Choice
Beginning at 12:30 PM the general public will begin sampling each teams’ wings. Entry costs $5 and each taster receives a blue plate and six wing tickets. Please collect one ticket for every wing you give and do not give wings without collecting tickets. Only serve tasters with tickets; that signifies they paid for entry.
Garnishes and accompaniments are allowed.
Each taster will receive one vote in the People’s Choice contest. There will be an estimated 300 entries sold.
Teams should serve the same wings they competed in for the judge’s panel.
People’s Choice will end when all the wings are gone, or 2:30pm.
Awards Ceremony
The awards ceremony will take place between 3:00 - 4:00pm at the main stage. The exact time depends on the bands.
Each prize winner will be announced and should come to the front of the stage to receive their trophy and take pictures.
If no one from a team can attend the awards ceremony please let organizers know so we can be prepared if that team wins.
Winners will receive a check for monetary prizes.
