Drivers proceed to Chattoogaville Bridge to park vehicles. A shuttle will be on hand to take drivers back to launch area. It takes approximately10 minutes to go from the launch site to the takeout area, and another 10 minutes back, so please time your arrival to place you back at the launch with your boats, gear and paddlers ready to launch by no later than 10 AM. Be sure to have your keys, wallets, etc. stowed in a water proof bag and secured on your boat or person.
The paddle will take 3.5 – 4 hours, so we should be off the water around 2 PM. There will be volunteers to help you get your boats out of the water and to your vehicles for loading. A Hospitality Tent will be offered at the festival in the park.
We will launch as a group at 10 AM. When all boats are in the water we will begin the paddle. Although the river was paddled recently, there may be new obstructions in the river. Those in front are asked to spot these and let those know behind. We will have a sweep paddler.
Notes:
Please be sure to bring water or other beverages, snacks, lunch, sunscreen, bug spray. Please wear appropriate footwear. The bottom of the river is littered with sharp rocks and broken glass.
Alcohol and illegal drugs are prohibited on this paddle.
Children under the age of 16 MUST be accompanied by an adult. There MUST be an appropriately-sized life jacket in the boat for each person at all times. Children under the age of 16 MUST wear their life jacket at all times.
All vessels must be sound and in good condition to be on the water, appropriately sized for the paddler, and equipped with paddles/oars. No inflatables or paddle boards allowed on this paddle.
If you see another paddler having trouble, or in the river, please offer assistance as you are able. However, do not put yourself at risk. If you should fall in, first try standing up. The river is mostly shallow enough to keep your head above water. Stay with your boat and hang onto your paddle.
If there is an obstruction, or a very narrow passage on the river (one boat wide), please hang back and approach these one at a time to avoid ramming another boat, or causing a pile up. Your leaders will point these out and advise you how to proceed.
If there is an emergency on the water, please call 911. You will be given Non-Emergency Contact Cards at the launch.
We want everyone to have fun and enjoy the river, but always be conscious of safety!
