Agave americana, also known as the century plant, maguey, or American aloe, is a flowering plant that belongs to the Asparagaceae family. It is native to the United States and Mexico, particularly Texas. Widely grown for its ornamental purpose, this plant has naturalized in several regions such as Southern California, the West Indies, South America, the Mediterranean Basin, Africa, the Canary Islands, India, China, Thailand, and Australia. Despite its common nickname, "American aloe," Agave americana is not related to the Aloe plant, but rather belongs to the same order, Asparagales.
