The red envelopes (hongbao in Mandarin/lai see in Cantonese) are for giving money on New Year and other special occasions to kids, but also newlyweds, graduates, newborns, etc. I love lai see - their red seems more intense than any other paper, and the gold seems spun from new beginnings. These show-stopping earrings are light and luminous.
