This encaustic painting features an oak tree with bare and winding branches along with actual pressed leaves encased within the wax layers. A great reminder that there is an eternal hope and life within all of us. A portion of an Albert Camus writing is subtly added: "In the depths of winter, I learned there was, in me, an invincible summer."
The painting is comprised of multiple layers of clear and pigmented wax resulting in a sculptural, multi-dimensional work with lots of texture. Fine details were added in oil and ink. A custom blend of beeswax and damar resin adds a translucency to give the artwork a glow and depth.
The overall artwork size is 20" x 40", and with the custom frame, the overall dimension is 25" x 45". The artwork is signed and dated on the back, and is wired and ready for hanging.
Also included is an encaustic care card which tells about the encaustic process, history, and how to care for your new encaustic painting.

My work draws on the same passions that initially led me to pursue landscape architecture, as both the natural world and manmade structures continue to be focal points for many pieces. The layered nature of encaustic allows me to add vintage objects or even reclaimed wood, physically bringing the natural world into my attempts to capture it.
Beyond Letters is the multi-media art studio of Mark Mohrenweiser, focused on natural art mediums, primarily encaustic—painting with pigmented beeswax.
