The “Narrows” of the Virgin River in Zion National Park is one of the most popular slot canyon hikes in the Southwest. With a little planning and proper clothing, people of all ages can safely venture up the river. There the water has carved a gorge so deep and narrow that sunlight rarely penetrates to the bottom. The constantly changing light as the sun moves overhead creates beautiful, glowing ribbons of light on the canyon walls as the cool water flows in the shadows below.
