Murray was also one of six American artists awarded the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts U.S./Japan Exchange Fellowship, allowing her to live and photograph in Tokyo, Japan for six months.
Noted for her ability to use natural light in elegant and sensuous ways, Frances Murray's photographs offer the viewer a surreal and haunting experience delving into the mysterious subconscious.
Murray's photography encompasses constructed still lives, botanical studies, portraits, and elegant nudes. Her work draws on themes of surrealism and formal composition focusing on transformational light and abstraction.
