This fleece weighs 2.75 pounds with a 3.5 inch staple length. A very soft spinning fleece with nice crimp from one of our wethers who’s only job is to grow fleece. The fleece: crimpy and fine with rich color, a more traditional Shetland type lock with the very soft bottom topped with a wavy wispy tips. Excellent to produce fine yarn for heirloom knitting or weaving projects. This is beautiful fleece allows the spinner to experience the best of Shetland wool. Shetland fleeces produce a light lofty yarn with a silky finish. And a little goes a long way. Our fleeces are never coated because these browsing animals have cleaned our pastures up nicely. But they might have some very light vegetable matter. (Coating sheep often causes felting and harms the lock structure.) Purchase of our products helps to support and preserve our heritage flock of sheep and the production of quality wool products. If you are located within driving distance of Cumberland County, Virginia, fleeces can be picked up at the farm to avoid shipping charges.
