The hinged top flips up to reveal a secret compartment below. We don't recommend it for actual murder and mayhem, but if you enjoy out-of-the-ordinary jewelry, this certainly fits the bill. Poison rings are also sometimes called locket rings, box rings, or pillbox rings. They seem to have originated in the far East, possibly India. It wasn't until the the Middle Ages, however, that the rings were introduced to western culture. The Borgia family in Renaissance Italy, and other such unsavory characters, are supposed to have employed poison rings in their search for political power. The Heart Poison Ring is made of sterling silver. Overall, the ring measures 1/2" wide. The interior dimensions of the compartment are smaller, of course— coming in at approximately 3/8" by 3/8". What can I put in my poison ring? DO NOT put anything illegal, dangerous, or unsanitary in your poison ring! Come on, folks- we didn't really need to tell you that, did we? Some of the best suggestions we've had from our customers have included a tiny picture of a loved one, or a bit of their hair, a bit of solid perfume or lip gloss, or a potent flavoring like ghost pepper powder (you only need a little to make your tongue burn!).
