Description

These paper dolls are inspired by the fashion industry and the joy I had when I was young. Like many little ones, I loved playing with dolls. I would create elaborate fantasy outfits made out of toilet paper, each a unique creation. Now that I am all grown up I wonder how do these fashion fantasies reflect onto the everyday person? This mixed media piece features my original photography mounted in a 2" deep handmade white shadow box frame. I paint with translucent india ink and water on the inside of the plexiglass and finish by adding some vinyl detailing. When the light illuminates the piece, a layer of coloured reflection is revealed.

I believe it is in our nature to keep a record of what we have done, where we have been and what we have seen. As an observer, I am drawn to forms in nature and the figure within that space. These are often the subjects of my photographic work. As an art-maker, I have been pushing beyond the boundaries of what is viewed as traditional photography to make photo-based work that is both ethereal and modern with a touch of whimsy that will bring joy into your home.
