Bill Snyder Astrophotography

"ALL PHOTOGRAPHS AVAIABLE IN VARIOUS SIZES" Bio: I have been fascinated by astronomy and space since I was very young and this is a way of portraying my interests of the universe to others. These are photographs taken by Me (Not Hubble) with my telescope and cameras. The images I produce are derived of particles of light traveling millions of years from distant worlds being captured through a telescope by the CCD chip of my camera. This is a technical art involving science and artistic creativity to produce imagery of objects distant and larger than most of us can even imagine. I believe this is a way to reveal the wonders of the universe and the sense that we are only a small part of a grand design and our ability to explore this new world is only just beginning. I have been producing astrophotography for the last 12 years. I have had many of my images published in magazines, books, movies, museum exhibits and websites (including NASA). This is art that brings a new perspective to our relationship with the Universe. Process Description::: I have a 130mm TMB telescope with an Apogee U8300 CCD camera at my home observatory in Connellsville Pa. Some of my work is captured with a 17in Planewave telescope with an Apogee U16 CCD camera remotely operated in the Sierra Nevada Mountains in California.I now also have my own equipment located in Yass Australia that I can remotely operate from my home. All my photographs are results of multiple exposures totaling 15 to 40 hrs of exposure time for each object. This long exposure time results in the rich color and deep detail of my photos. Using special filters I am able to capture the different gasses in the various objects. The ejected envelope of the gases start to glow from the radiation created by nearby stars, just like a neon sign. Hydrogen and sulfur glow red. Oxygen glows blue-green - a beautiful teal color. They emit light at very specific wavelengths. The colors of this ionization process therefore come from emissions of the various chemical elements.
