Rodeo Evening (Ridgway, CO)

This work was painted from life in Ouray County on the Western Slope in Colorado. I loved the rustic sign with the mountains in the distance.Cars pulled in and out of the dirt parking lot as I painted. Some people stopped their cars on the way in and chatted with me. One guy leaned out of his van and asked me if I wanted a ride to Telluride. I laughed and said no. I stayed until early evening to finish the piece. One small sedan remained in the parking lot, the engine running as two people talked inside. This piece was featured in my recent solo show, "Finding America". It was held at Headquarters Gallery in Telluride for the month of September, 2020. The painting was made on an 8x10 inch canvas panel. It has been varnished, and is unframed. Because it is a standard size, it would be easy to find a pre-made frame at any shop that carries them.
